Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love has caught headlines before, being the first African-American woman to serve as mayor in the state of Utah, but now she is getting attention because of the possibility of her running for U.S. Congress in 2012.

Mayor Love reportedly met with the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) recently. The NRCC is the political committee that works to get Republicans elect to the House of Representatives. Love also tweeted that she met with Utah Senator Mike Lee (who has become a go to guy for conservative candidates) and Freedom Works today.

Love became mayor of Saratoga Springs in January 2010 after garnering 59% of the vote. Before that she served for 6 years on the City Council.

It's hard to know what national issues are important to Mayor Love, since city politics are very different than national politics, but Love told the Salt Lake Tribune in 2009, "When I sit down at that podium, I should ask myself, 'What is the proper role of government?' It is a question I ask myself every time."
